Socket Cap Screws

What are Metric Socket Cap Screws DIN 912?

Metric socket cap screws are a type of socket screw that is driven by an Allen key or hex key. The Allen key is inserted into a hex recess in the centre of the cylindrical head and turned to tighten or loosen the screw.

Socket cap screws can be called many different things by different people. Some of these include names like cap heads, cap bolts, Allen bolts or socket cap head screws to name a few.

These screws are manufactured to the exacting standards of the DIN 912 & ISO 4762 specs and are readily available in a huge range of sizes and materials. The metric threads are also created to the strict tolerances of the ISO 965-1 spec.

Difference Between Socket Cap Head Screws & Socket Cap Head Bolts

The general name for din 912 screws is socket cap head screws, this is what most people will refer to them as. Some others would call the partially threaded version socket cap head bolts.

Socket cap head screws come fully threaded as standard in shorter lengths but then start to become partially threaded the longer they get. If you were to look at partially threaded lengths, the actual thread length will stay the same but the plain shank will increase as the socket cap head bolts get longer.

The simple formula to work out the threaded section on longer lengths of socket cap head bolts is 2x thread diameter + 12mm.

Although not standard, fully threaded lengths are available in most sizes, if you give us a shout, we can source what you need.
